THE ORIGIN

Our story looks back to Yemen, where coffee became part of the rhythm of everyday life.
In the highlands of Haraz, coffee grows on mountain terraces. Across Yemen, generations of growers helped shape one of the world’s oldest coffee cultures. Its journey reached far beyond those mountains through the Red Sea port of Al-Mokha, whose name lives on in “mocha.”
Qahwa is the Arabic word for coffee. For us, it also calls to mind the conversation around it: the unhurried pause, the offered seat, the cup that brings people closer.

THE KUTLI
A kettle.
An open invitation.
The Kutli gives our house its name and its spirit.
In our story, the kettle is a symbol of welcome. It asks for very little: water, warmth, and someone to share it with. What it offers is larger — a reason to sit, to listen, and to stay.
The majlis, a place for gathering and conversation, carries that same spirit. Serving a cup is an expression of generosity. We bring that belief into the way we greet every guest.

Kuttley House began its Brooklyn chapter in 2025. Greenpoint is where we put our belief into practice: a neighborhood house where a familiar face, a good cup, and a little time can become part of your day.
Our Yemeni roots meet the pace and variety of Brooklyn. Espresso beside Turkish tea. A warm croissant beside an iced matcha. There is room for different tastes at the same table.
